2013 South Africa Reflections

"Thank you Lord for the amazing opportunity for 24 people from Karnes City to serve you in South Africa."

There are more stories of God's presence, and guidance than I can write in one post.  Please stop one of the Africa Team Members and ask them about this trip.  Any one of the 24 would be excited to tell you what God did in Africa this summer.  None of us come back unchanged.  God blessed each of us as we served Him, loved His people, and worked together to fulfill His purpose.

Thank you church for your financial support, prayer support, and your encouragement.  You were a part of this trip even if you didn't fly to South Africa.  Thank you for serving God with us.  Your prayers were vital.  There were multiple times when we could feel defeat setting in, then, someone would mention our prayer support at home.  The simple knowledge that you were praying furtively for us to fulfill God's plan brought His peace with it.  The small count of 24 members from the church could not have gone without the support of the larger church at home.

While we were there, Jan really gave us an overview of what TSEASA does and the people he ministers to.  We were able to see several different aspects of God's work there.  Each day started with breakfast together as a team.  On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we then went to the Mission Station to practice for the graduation and pick up our translators for the day.  Monday we went to an orphanage for children who had no other family.  We were able to hear them sing and play with them for a short amount of time.  After our practice time on Tuesday and Wednesday, we went to Extension 8 (the Township)  to meet the people there and share God's love with them.  On Wednesday evening, we were able to participate in the graduation of three of Jan's students.  What an honor it was for us to be a part of that ceremony.  God blessed us that day.  On Thursday, Jan took us back to Vingerkraal which is a town we were able to visit on our last trip and then he had a special treat planned for us.  We were able to see a special feeding of lions.  Friday we were able to see all the work that was done at Raeleng School and spend many hours in Extension 8 (the Township) again.

There is such a need for the truth of Christ's salvation.  The people there are so hungry for truth.  They feel the empty space in their life that can only be filled with Christ, but many are fed so many lies, they just don't know how to find Christ's truth.  We saw the influence of drugs, alcohol, ancestry worship, and spiritualism everywhere, but there was still and emptiness the people longed to fill.  Here in America, we have so many "things" we use to try and fill that space.  Most people become so surrounded by junk in their lives as they try, sometimes successfully, to forget the emptiness.  Many people we met had nothing to fill in that space, and were just longing to find out how Jesus could fill it.

It was amazing to see how faithfully Jan and his team use the resources God has given them to meet the needs of the people.  It was humbling to see Jan's faith in God's provisions and protection.  TSEASA is at the heart of God's plan in doing Kingdom Work.  What an honor it is to partner with them.
